In weakly alkaline solution the major products were 3‐methoxy‐1 (Z),4 (E)‐cyclooctadiene (18) and 5‐methoxy‐1 (Z),3 (E)‐cyclooctadiene (19), The disrotatory reaction of 16 may have been intercepted at an intermediate stage to give the observed configurations of 18 and 19. In the presence of sodium methoxide, 8‐exo‐methoxybicyclo[5.1.0]oct‐2‐ene (17) and 8‐syn‐methoxybicyclo[3.2.1]oct‐6‐ene (20) were formed to the exclusion of 18 and 19. These products are probably derived from the carbenes 33 and 36. For comparison, diazo compounds were generated from the tosylhydrazones 34 and 42 to study the products of their decomposition in methanol."@de,
"Abstract: exo‐Bicyclo[5.1.0]oct‐2‐en‐8‐diazonium‐Ionen (16) wurden durch alkalische Spaltung des entsprechenden Nitrosoharnstoffs (15) in Methanol erzeugt. In schwach alkalischer Lösung entstanden als Hauptprodukte 3‐Methoxy‐1 (Z),4 (E)‐cyclooctadien (18) und 5‐Methoxy‐1 (Z),3 (E)‐cyclooctadien (19). Die Konfiguration von 18 und 19 entspricht dem Abfangen einer „halbgeöffneten”︁ Zwischenstufe der disrotatorischen Reaktion von 16. In Gegenwart von Natriummethylat wurden statt 18 und 19 8‐exo‐Methoxybicyclo[5.1.0]oct‐2‐en (17) und 8‐syn‐Methoxybicyclo[3.2.1]‐oct‐6‐en (20) gebildet. Diese Produkte leiten sich wahrscheinlich von den Carbenen 33 und 36 ab. Zum Vergleich erzeugten wir aus den Tosylhydrazonen 34 und 42 die entsprechenden Diazoverbindungen und untersuchten deren Reaktionsprodukte mit Methanol."@de;
